Photos of the Destruction

Kings Park 2007
The above two photos show the felling of healthy mature trees in an area of widespread devastation in our urban bushland. Over recent years hundreds of mature trees have been destroyed in the name of protecting biodiversity. The environmental impact of this destruction concentrated in relatively few years can only have broader environmental consequences. Who is calculating the tonnes of CO2 released by the wood-chipping of these trees? Who is measuring the environmental loss in terms of the CO2 sequestration function previously performed by the living urban trees? We have asked the Environment Ministers, past and present, federal and state but their responses have been inadequate. See Campaign page.

AK Reserve Bush Forever 2008
Here we see precious Regional Open Space being destroyed thanks to the shallow thinking of our politicians in both Local and State Governments. The people of Western Australia have been let down. Unlike our forefathers who at least had the good sense to provide plenty of open green space for future generations, we are having our green infrastructure taken away from us and the State Government is replacing it with grey infrastructure - Whether it is about development of remnant bushland or the river foreshore, the State government and many councils are full of ideas that destroy our local amenity as well as our natural environment. We need legislation to protect our fast disappearing natural environment and public open space. What will Colin Barnett's new government do to stop any further destruction of our natural environment?. See 2008 Petiton.

Moreton Bay Fig Tree in Cottesloe Destroyed

Fig Tree Gone
This is a prime example of the problem: a perfectly healthy Moreton Bay fig tree in Cottesloe is cut down for what?

Fig Tree 2 This is the view of the tree from the road

Fig Tree 3
These trees need to be protected not destroyed, they make up our natural urban landscape
